soounding him severely
in both buttocks,
on the left side there are three large
= wounds (evidently caused by slugs) - each about the size of a sixpence the right buttock there is
only one wound, but not of such a severe
nature as the others. & tried to persuade this man's
family to take him to the Civil Hospital, but they would not hear of such a thing.
P.C.556 states that the man he fired at and wounded
was one of the thieves who was immediately picked up by his
comrades and the whole gang succeeded in making good their
escape, also that when he arrived at the beach he was fired on from
the junk which was then about 100 yards off and that he returned the fire but does not know with what result.
No persons either amongst the police or villagers are able to
identify the boat or robbers, but from the way in which the house was broken into I am of the opinion that the interior of the shop must have been well known to the perpetrators of the robbery, and their plans, to be so successful, must have been carefully laid.
The whole gang is stated to consist of some 15 or 20. eleven or twelve of whom landed.
